EIMA Agrimach: agricultural machinery in India

Agro Napló
The second edition of the international agricultural mechanization review organized by Unacoma Service and FICCI is set for December 8 to 10 in New Delhi. Some than 250 exhibitors on hand for the event with offers of the most varied types of machinery and equipment in the country experiencing a boom in demand for agricultural mechanization and ranked at the top globally for the number of tractors sold.

The agricultural machinery market has found its world leader, India, the sub-continent giant for years reporting impressive gains in machines and equipment sold which, in 2010, rose to become the country with the largest market share in tractor sales in the world. India has surged ahead with more than 371,000 tractors sold annually in the category of greater than 30 hp, and excluding smaller motorized units. The figure is greater than the number for China, in strong expansion at 321,000 units, three times greater than for all of Western Europe where 122,000 units were sold in 2010, and four times over the 81,000 units reported for the United States. The race to mechanization is assigned mainly to the need to meet the food requirements of a population which has reached 1.2 billion as well as to a drive for diversification and the supply products of greater quality for an expanding middle class looking to higher consumption standards.

Against this backdrop, EIMA Agrimach, the second edition of the international agricultural mechanization review is scheduled for December 8 to 10 in New Delhi. The trade fair is organized by Unacoma Service and FICCI, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of agriculture, the Italian Ministry for Economic Development and the Emilia Romagna Region. On the heels of the strongly positive first edition in December 2009 with a great turnout of exhibitors and visitors, this year’s event is promising a set of highly prestigious figures: the setting for the exhibition area is the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, IARI, on the Delhi outskirts, on 30,000 m², 35% larger than for the previous edition; the number of participating industries, including virtually all the world’s major manufacturers, has risen to 250 and the number of visitors expected should top 25,000 arriving from around India and the regional neighbors Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Singapore.

India, with this sustained trend, is the market which draws the greatest interest of manufacturers of tractors and machinery and equipment for various types of crops, as shown by the presence at EIMA Agrimach of exhibitors from many countries, some such as Japan, China, The United States, South Korea and The Netherlands organized into collectives as well as delegations representing the manufacturers associations of various countries as confirmed by Abimaq from Brazil and the AEM of The United States.

Italy will be in the front rank here with the largest number of exhibiting manufacturers able to put on exhibit a vast range of machinery and equipment for effective integration with the production of the Indian mechanization industries which can now claim outstanding production capabilities.

Unacoma President and Unacoma Service Managing Director Massimo Goldoni commented, “The fact of sharing the organization of a trade fair event of such importance and so strategic is a show of the great cooperation between Italy and India in the sector of agricultural mechanization. This does not mean that EIMA Agrimach must not have a strong international character and offer businesspeople what will be the finest products of all countries for various types of agriculture because the prestige of a review like this one depends on the importance of its exhibitors and because in Italy, as in all the other parts of the world, it’s the competition among all the players which improves technological content and makes the market grow.”
