FEDERUNACOMA: a federation of the mechanical industries

Agro Napló
Unacoma, the organization which represents agricultural machinery manufacturers, has completed a transformation process to now become a fully-fledged federation made up of seven specialized associations in the category. Elections were held during an extraordinary assembly this morning in San Lazzaro, near Bologna, for the creation of the bodies representing the associations and federation. President Massimo Goldoni affirmed that greater independence for the associations and more political weight for the federation are the goals for this important development which enjoys the full support of Confindustria.

To all effects, the Italian Farm Machinery Manufacturers Association is, as of today, a Federation. The Unacoma acronym which has represented manufacturers in the sector within Confindustria, the Italian Manufacturers Federation, for 67 years has been replaced by FederUnacoma, an organization with representation at a higher level which brings together seven individual associations covering various sectors of specialization.

ASSOMAO (implements), ASSOMASE (self-propelled machines), ASSOTRATTORI (tractors), COMACOMP (components), COMAGARDEN (gardening), COMAMOTER (earthmoving) and UNAMOT (engines) are the category associations brought into the new federation.

The industrialists in this vast manufacturing category – who account for sales averaging out at some € 10 billion and export more than 60% of production – gathered this morning for their extraordinary assembly in San Lazzaro, near Bologna, to vote in the presidents, vice presidents and board representatives of the single associations to join the board of directors of the federations, to be completed with further elections scheduled for June 20.

An office not taken up in these consultations was that of the president, Massimo Goldoni, who will remain in office until the end of his statutory term in June 2013 to ensure continuity in the transition of the Unacoma membership organization to that of the new federation.

In comment, President Goldoni said, “We have worked with great commitment over the past two years to achieve a structure which, at the same time, recognizes greater efficiency and autonomy for the single groups while allowing the aggregation of other institutional bodies representing sectors associated with mechanization and linked to the sector with a view to expanding the federation’s representation front and gaining greater weight in political and institutional quarters.”

The federation project is, moreover, in line with the orientation of Confindustria which favors an aggregation policy for rationalizing activities and the services system for the various enterprises in the sector. In his report to the general assembly held in Rome last week, Confindustria’s newly-elected president, Giorgio Squinzi, emphasized the point that the spirit of innovation which drives entrepreneurial activities must also be the characteristics of their representative bodies.

Thus the federation structure becomes a framework capable welcoming and harmonizing the interests of various industrial sectors at an especially sensitive time for the nation’s industries. “It will be up to the new bodies voted in to develop projects and define priorities for the agenda in line with the modus operandi and values which have always been characteristic of our system of representation,” Goldoni added.
