The development of competitive animal production in the CIS countries, and especially in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, is currently being targeted and supported politically. These countries, which aim to become self-sufficient with products of animal origin, are investing considerably in promoting livestock and poultry farming. Whilst they are taking measures to protect domestic production they are also seeking new markets. What are the prospects for development of animal production in the CIS countries in a global context?
