Danube Soya Newsletter 6/15

Agro Napló
When in May 2015 roughly 200 people took part in the Danube Soya East West Protein Forum they shared one common goal: The promotion of a European – and European Soya production under the Danube Soya Guidelines. On 8th of May the conference was successfully concluded with the joint Berlin Declaration, drafted by the government network of European GMO-free regions, the NGO and scientist network, and the Danube Soya Association.

In our joint declaration, the topic of protein was paramount, and received serious consideration from a large number of international stakeholders.

The Danube Soya Association has over 195 members from 17 countries, resulting in a broad professional network that reaches across Europe. 14 out of 16 Danube Region countries have already signed the Danube Soya Declaration. Our latest achievement is the signing of the Danube Soya Declaration by the Ukraine – a commitment to a common European protein supply and Non-GM Soya production.

Danube Soya expands constantly, in terms of certified partners and products, cultivation area and members. This expansion has been realized thanks to the Danube Soya offices in Vienna (AUT), Novi Sad (SRB), and Bucharest (RO), as well as representatives in Italy and Switzerland. In spring 2015 Danube Soya gained two new colleagues to represent Danube Soya in Germany and Poland. Their contributions offer our project an additional boost.

The future for European soybean cultivation looks good: including Ukrainian production, the estimated 2015 harvest is 7.7 million tons. This would be a valuable contribution to the European protein supply, and you can read more about this in our forthcoming Danube Soya Market Report, which will be sent free of charge to our members.
