The assessments were expressed by a Technical-Scientific Committee composed of authoritative representatives belonging to the wine-making and vine-growing world, to the scientific community and to UIV-member wine-makers. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for 4 November within SIMEI, the world leader exhibition in wine technology.
There were two award categories.
The “Technological Innovation Award” is the special mention for the projects considered of particular note, for whose development an extensive scientific expertise is acknowledged together with filed experience and especially a contribution of ingenious minds, capable of breaking old patterns and creating synergies in know-how.

The Innovation Challenge was established to reward and give visibility to the wine-making and vine-growing companies that have been employing resources to contribute to the development of the sectors related to the vineyard-winery and the beverage chains: agriculture, viticulture, enology, agrarian mechanics and bottling/packaging of wine, water and drinks.
In this way it is possible to enhance the commitment shown by the manufacturers of technologies and services, thus emphasizing the projects of recognized innovative content, which will then be highlighted on several occasions and in various ways during the exhibition.
This year´s innovations were assessed by a Technical-Scientific Committee composed of 27 authoritative exponents of the wine-making and vine-growing world.
Among the Italian representatives there were twelve researchers coming from CREA Centres, E. Mach Foundation and from seven universities; in addition to these, there were twelve directors from the most important wine-making and vine-growing companies in our country.
The foreign participation was also very qualified. Among the foreign members of the Committee: Monika Christmann (Institut für Oenologie – Hochschule Geisenheim University), Philippe Darriet (INRA Unité Oenologie-Université de Bordeaux), Pierre Louis Teissedre (Institut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin, Oenologie-Bordeaux).
In the 2015 edition the Committee wanted to give an award in particular to the innovations conceived with special care for economic, environmental and ethic-social sustainability, while achieving an improvement in the quality of enological products and of work.
Three out of the four "Technological Innovation Awards" are focused on filtration with technologies granting high performances and, at the same time, reduction of waste and of energy consumption. Among the novelties mentioned as "New Technology", the recurring theme is the quick analysis of grapes, must and wine, in order to verify qualitative indexes and to monitor fermentation.
