The unique design of the new Profi-grip rim from GKN Wheels was developed in order to prevent the slippage between tyre and rim.
Ever-growing demands on the efficiency of agricultural processes are leading to the development of bigger tractors and implements.
To convert the power of the tractor into traction on the ground, use is often made of tyre pressure regulating systems to create the largest possible contact surface on the ground by lowering the tyre inflation pressure.
The combination of high engine output, large implements, heavy loads, low tyre inflation pressure and dry ground surface constitutes a special challenge for the interaction between tyre and rim.
Farmers and contractors have increasingly reported that tyre slippage on the rim is occurring more and more frequently, particularly on bigger tractors. That´s why GKN Land Systems specifically adapted the new design of the Profi-grip rim to avoid the re-currant problem of slippage between the tyre and rim.
The design of the Profi-grip rim proved successful in eliminating tyre slippage in series of intensive tests on both paved and unmade surfaces. The new design has a more stable rim flange than customary designs. That prevents the rim from giving way. In addition, the contact pressure between tyre and rim is increased. The rim flange also protects the tyre during operation with a low inflation pressure, and during tyre mounting.
The new Profi-grip rim also has a Profi-fit (TW) rim profile, offering a number of advantages. For example, it allows for easier mounting of tyres with rigid sidewalls, such as are required for high payloads. In addition, mounting is faster, thus also making for greater efficiency.
