The European Union (EU) applies strict control and surveillance measures to ensure the safety of European beef, and the EU Member States comply with all relevant international rules.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) requests that all bans and restrictions for EU beef products throughout the world should be lifted as soon as possible. However, some Member States still face a number of prohibitions and restrictions related to the suspected Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) risk in many countries, such as China, South Korea and Taiwan. The European Commission continues to work to reach full reopening of all these markets.
