The Council meeting will take place on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 December 2017 in Brussels, starting on the first day at 9.30 and the second day at 10.00. It will address both agricultural and fisheries matters, and be chaired by Mr Siim Kiisler, minister of environment and Mr Tarmo Tamm, minister of Rural Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.

On the first day the meeting will start with a preliminary exchange of views on the Commission proposals fixing the 2018 fishing opportunities for the main fish stocks in the Atlantic and the North Sea.

The Council will then have the opportunity to hear a presentation given by Vice President Katainen on the Commission's communication on "The Future of Food and Farming", and to have a first discussion on it.

Ministers will also be informed about the outcome of two conferences on modern biotechnologies in Agriculture and on African swine fever, as well as about developments on the front of tackling unfair trading practices.

On the second day ministers will revert to fisheries with a number of information points on: the risk of choke species associated to the landing obligation, and the outcome of the conferences "Beyond 2020: Supporting Europe's coastal states communities" and "Our Ocean".

The Council is then due to reach a political agreement on the 2018 fishing opportunities for the main fish stocks in the Atlantic and the North Sea.
