Combined cattle and pig event premiered 2016– Speakers attending this year from Israel and the USA – Event helps farmers gear up for the EuroTier trade fair

Representatives from Europe's pig and milk production sectors on the eve of this year's EuroTier trade fair will come together once again for a joint discussion on issues affecting their industries. The farmers'clubs European Pig Producers (EPP) together with German cattle breeders federation and the DLG Dairy International committee organized the first combined event at EuroTier two years ago in the hope that it could take advantage of synergies in the two sectors, and address the broader issues they faced.

“We decided to bring the dairy and pig producers together in one event at the last EuroTier because we found that across the livestock species there were a number of commonalities that could easily be addressed at a gathering like this,” said Sven Häuser, manager of EPP based at the DLG (German Agricultural Society). “What is more, it works like a dialogue, which is what the DLG is all about. And it also gears everyone up for EuroTier, which starts the next day.”

This year's International Cattle & Pig Event will take place in the Convention Center at Hanover's Exhibition Center from 18:30 on 12 November (this year EuroTier runs from 13-16 November). The event already attracts pig and dairy farmers from throughout Europe, and this year will also feature speakers from Israel and the USA.

Pig producers at this year's International Pig & Cattle Event will be keen to hear the views of Clemens Tönnies, the owner of one of Germany's largest meat processors, in his presentation “Local roots – acting globally”. This will discuss his company's perspective on the future of meat production.

How milk producers and their businesses react to increasingly limited natural resources will be discussed by Prof. Dr. Jude Capper, of Washington State University, in his presentation “Milk needs to be more than green – how do we keep dairy farming sustainable?”.

Following these presentations, Israeli dairy farmer Jonathan Amir, chair of the DLG Dairy International group, an informal committee of dairy farmers and experts being active in social networks,  will give his closing remarks, reflecting on what the meeting has heard, and adding his own perspective on the challenges facing the sectors.

The formal session, which will be conducted in English, will be followed by a joint EPP/DLG/BRS reception and networking event in the foyer of the Convention Center.

The 2018 International Cattle & Pig Event is open to farmers, advisors, researchers and exhibitors. Pre-registration is required with participants being charged a fee of 45 € which includes dinner and beverages at the reception which follows the Cattle & Pig event.

Dairy, pig and poultry forums in English at EuroTier 2018

A visit to EuroTier is an opportunity to acquire global knowledge and fresh perspectives. To further facilitate this exchange of know-how and information, topics for the forum program at the event have been carefully selected to reflect closely the trends being witnessing in the animal production sector throughout the world.

At EuroTier 2018, dairy, pig and poultry issues will be explored in detail in technical forums and show specials dedicated to these livestock species. The following 48 presentations will be available in English.
