EuroTier is widely acknowledged as the global meeting place for everyone involved in the production of livestock, but the event is not exclusively for established and experienced agriculturalists. The trade fair also provides a great opportunity for young farmers to broaden their horizons, and while they will find every day at Hanover Exhibition Center of value, Young Farmers Day on Thursday, 15 November will include a special program of events tailored for the younger generation.

The DLG's (German Agricultural Society) Young Farmers Day Project Manager, Stefan Luther, said the day provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to meet and discuss ideas and prospects within the industry. “Since the first Young Farmers Day was introduced over ten years ago, it has grown in importance, not only for young professionals already involved in agriculture, but also those aiming to enter the industry in one way or another,” Luther added.

A growing interest in the sector from young people, sparked in part by the stability and increasing importance of agriculture as an industry with good career prospects, has seen Young Farmers Day at EuroTier become a central bi-annual meeting point for young farmers from all over Europe.

“Whereas once young people would have been dissuaded from considering farming as a viable career, on the basis of it being primarily manual and unskilled, the level of technology and opportunities now offered mean, it is now far more of an appealing option after leaving school and further education,” said Luther.

“Young people today are much more comfortable with computers and mobile devices, indeed many will not be able to remember a time period without smartphones and the ability to access information whenever it is needed,” added Luther.

Full technical program for Young Farmers Day

On Thursday, 15 November, the Young Farmers Day technical program will provide information and allowing plenty of opportunities for young people interested in agriculture to ask questions about the sector. The presentations begin at 10:00 at the DLG Young Farmers Day Forum which can be found on the DLG stand, Hall 26, Stand B28. The topics under discussion will once again concentrate on careers, particularly in the feed sector, and include discussions and plenty of room for exchanges of personal experiences.

The day's formal proceedings will end with the International Young Farmers Congress, which takes place from 17:00 in Room 2 of at the Convention Center (CC). Featuring simultaneous German/English translation, the topic this year is

"Young Farmers and their individual ways for a modern agriculture", and it will feature the international voices of young entrepreneurs relaying their experiences of building new businesses within the agricultural sector.

Many continuing and long-lasting friendships have resulted from participation in Young Farmers Day, and the 2018 program is one not to miss.

The legendary Young Farmers Party

First held in 2003, the Young DLG's Young Farmers Party has earned its “legendary” status, bringing together thousands of young people from the agricultural sector and giving them the ideal environment to wind down after a busy day at the exhibition center.

A number of exciting changes are being made for the 15th Young Farmers Party to ensure that it continues to deliver unforgettable experiences for participants. First, the venue is changing, and this year it will be held in the Munich Hall at the Hanover Exhibition Center from 20:00-02:30.

The party began as a networking platform and this remains its primary purpose today, allowing young people in the industry from all over Germany to get to know each other. This year, from 22:00, there will be the opportunity to get to know the DLG and build exclusive contacts in agribusiness at the sponsors lounge in the Munich Hall.

Food trucks outside the hall will offer a great selection of delicacies for small and large appetites at subsidized prices, and the Young Farmers Party will feature the wonderful world of wine at the “WEINbar”, which is stocked exclusively with specialties from DLG Young Winemaker of the Year competitors.
