At Enovitis in campo 2021, Braun Agricultural Machinery's Braun VPA is the winner of the Lucio Mastroberardino Innovation Challenge, the competition aimed at promoting the most avant-garde proposals in winemaking.
The awards ceremony is due to be held on 1 July during the 15th edition of the unione Italiana Vini's itinerant event (1-2 July, Pico Maccario, Mombaruzzo - AT). The Braun VPA (Vineyard Pilot Assistant) has been awarded the gold medal for "the potential improvement of heavy handling operations on vine rows with increased precision, speed and ergonomics". This is a self-positioning system for the tractor equipment that allows the winegrower to concentrate on driving alone while the system takes care of the operation of the equipment. In addition, thanks to an operational data collection system in the Vineyard Cloud digital vineyard app, the machine allows the winegrower to track all work and optimise the logistics and quality management of future vineyard operations.
Automation and artificial intelligence and more. Other solutions classed by the Enovitis In Campo Technical-Scientific Committee as "New technology" include innovations in the field of both environmental and economic sustainability. These range from the Saving System by C.E.A. of Cornaglia - Agrimix, an electronic regulation system for the selective distribution of fertilizer, to the Dr.ag.on project by Spektra Agri, which involves the use of drones for precision monitoring (the photos taken reach a definition of 1cm/pixel) and site-specific treatment of vineyards, regulated according to the characteristics of individual plots. The new Landini Mistral2 series by Argo Tractors, complete with a new engine compliant with Stage V emission standards, also stands out in terms of visibility and remote diagnosis tools. "Versatility" is also the key word for Sicma's inter-row equipment carrier (which can be mounted on the front or the back of the tractor and makes it possible to install the best combination of tools to perform different operations in one crossing) and the TRG 10900R by Antonio Carraro, a special tractor with differentiated wheels and lowered centre of gravity designed to work in conditions with a steep lateral slope (up to 35 degrees). Among the innovations designed to speed up and rationalise the work of winegrowers, the 65 Livio Rapid tool by Mollificio Bortolussi, a facilitator for mounting the Livio hook (one of the hooks most widely used for anchoring the post to the wire in Italian vineyards) which guarantees durability and stability, as well as fast and safe installation. Finally, Isagro's automatic pheromone trap also focuses on intelligent observation, based on an experimental image recognition system that makes it possible to automatically monitor and remotely access the species of insects caught.
With 161 exhibitors, Enovitis in campo is the point of reference in italy for winemaking technology which attracts around 6,000 visitors a year from all over the country.
