The Sustainable Food System Framework will also contribute to the establishment of appropriate food labelling to help consumers make sustainable choices. Everyone involved in the food supply chain, from farmers and the food industry to retailers and consumers, has a role to play in this development. This is why it is important that today's public consultation reaches a wide range of citizens and stakeholders from the EU and third countries, whose contributions will feed into its development. Moreover, given the current context of the conflict in Ukraine and its potential consequences on our food security.
The consultation will run for 12 weeks, until July 21, 2022, and is expected to gather views and data on key issues, primarily on how to ensure the sustainability and resilience of food systems.
The consultation questionnaire is available in all official EU languages. Other consultation activities are also planned, including expert surveys and workshops, consultation of expert groups of stakeholders and Member States as well as targeted consultations with other EU institutions.
