The “combo” with BKT CON STAR tires and Merlo telehandlers wins the breeding challenge

2021.07.13.

BKT gets to the heart of a typical day of Scaglia Farm, where the capacity and versatility of the vehicles are the strongest aid when facing important and variable workloads. Between land care and the handling of materials.

A new day begins at Scaglia Farm, the agricultural business in Turin that has been breeding Piedmontese cattle for two generations and whose vehicles have been relying on BKT tires for some years.

Managing 400 head of cattle does not only foresee activities related to the animal, but also entails the cyclical organization of a series of collateral tasks of fundamental importance. These include the care of the land, hay bales' moving and storage, the relocation of materials such as manure, just to name a few.

Facing such important activities is nowadays unthinkable without the help of technology and the support of cutting-edge vehicles that allow sustainable management during human operations.

This is why Graziano, Paolo and Mauro brothers, have equipped the Scaglia Farm with a telehandler: a multipurpose and versatile vehicle that can be used on different surfaces and in various soil conditions.

This is the Merlo TF30.9 model, a utility tractor with a front loader, with important and innovative technological features. This range’s models are characterized by 3,000 kg capacity, in addition to the largest cabin in its category, where the operator can work in maximum comfort and safety. Merlo is the only telehandler manufacturer able to offer a compact solution with a lifting height of nine meters.

The choice of tires fitted to these vehicles is also fundamental, precisely to complete their very wide usage potential and to enhance their performance.

For their Merlo telehandler, the Scaglia brothers chose BKT CON STAR, a tire designed for handling vehicles such as telehandlers and wheel loaders.

This tire ensures great performance in any condition thanks to the strong grip provided by the wide lugs that increase the contact area with the underlying ground. The “Cut-and-Chip resistant” compound also guarantees resistance and durability, while the diagonal design prevents lateral slippage even when fully-loaded, which is a fundamental feature for this type of machinery. CON STAR is marked with a load index of 148 in the 440/80 size, which means that it can handle loads up to 5,600 kg without losing stability

Mauro Scaglia, owner with his brothers of the Scaglia Farm, states: “This is our third Merlo vehicle. We used to have the standard tractor with the front fork, but switching to a telescopic truck is a completely different thing, the differences are immediately felt. As for the tires, they must be comfortable when driving on the road, but also robust and must withstand a good oscillation, especially when we are handling heavy loads at high heights. By choosing BKT we noticed a big positive difference in terms of sliding; for example, when we move materials in the stable, we feel a stronger grip and greater safety”.

This kind of appreciation would seem obvious, almost typical for a multinational like BKT, but it is not. Every comment, every experience – such as that of the Scaglia Farm – that is put into words by those who use a BKT tire, is one step less in the stairway to customer satisfaction, which at BKT is known as the mission.
