The event for the presentation of Italian agricultural machinery in Punjab came to a close on Sunday, March 17th. The promotion was organized in the framework of an agreement struck between the Indian Punjab State and the Emilia Romagna Region and accords between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, FICCI, and FederUnacoma, the Italian Federation of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers. The three days in India were staged in Ludhiana, on the grounds of the Punjab Agricultural University, to coincide with the big Kisan Mela agricultural fair which drew some 250,000 visitors. The event was broken down into two days of trials in the field on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th, and a day entirely dedicated to business meetings between representatives of the manufacturing industries and local businesspeople sponsored by the Indian-Italian Chamber of Commerce in concert with the Indian Manufacturers Association, AMMA. The three-day outing revolved around agricultural machinery and equipment produced by 21 specialized industries and marked a further step in the direction of the great EIMA AgriMach trade fair, organized by FederUnacoma and FICCI heading into its third biennial edition in New Delhi in December.
In recent years the Indian market has risen to first place in the world with tractors sales which last year came to an estimated 600,000 units moved, six times those sold in the United States and four times the volume for all of Europe to become a market of extraordinary importance for Italian manufacturers holding front rank status for mechanical engineering excellence and the breadth of product range, quality and flexibility welcomed at home and in India.
FederUnacoma President Massimo Goldoni, referring to a diplomatic fray between the two nations, declared, “I’m certain that tensions between the governments connected to the matter of members of the Italian military will soon be overcome and a satisfactory solution for both sides will be found because relations with India are not based solely on mutual interests and technical and economic cooperation but also on excellent sentiments at the cultural and human level.” He went on to say, “As FederUnacoma, we have been collaborating with FICCI for a number of years and by now we have reached great synchrony for the development of mechanization which can reconcile production requirements with those for safeguarding natural resources and respecting the model of farming enterprises the country intends to develop in this phase which is so dynamic and important in its history.”
