CARGILL DEMONSTRATES HOW CUSTOMERS CAN IMPROVE FARM EFFIENCY TO FEED A GROWING WORLD AT EUROTIER 2014

Agro Napló
With a world population now at 7 billion from 3 billion 50 years ago and set to reach 9 billion by 2050, the global demand for food, at affordable prices continues to increase. To meet this demand calls for environmentally sustainable production systems. Cargill has focussed its developments on achieving these goals through improved farm efficiency and it will showcase these at EuroTier. Improved farm efficiency and better use of livestock feed inputs will play a part in meeting consumer demand for increased production of healthy and sustainable food. At EuroTier exhibition, 11 – 14 November 2014, Cargill Animal Nutrition will focus on new nutritional and management concepts that will help the livestock industry meet these demands. Visitors to Cargill's stand (Hall 15 Stand D15) will learn more about the following science-based solutions.

Dairy

For dairy producers, Cargill has developed feeding programs that can improve sustainable milk and meat production by producing more from fewer inputs. The Rupromin range includes Rupromin Fiber with Amaferm® that is proven to stimulate the growth and enzyme production of rumen fungi. Results from 18 separate scientific trials, with cows in early, mid and late lactation, show an average increase in milk yield of 4.5 percent where Amaferm® is used compared with the control.

Performance improvements can be achieved by using the rumen buffer Rupromin Balance to help create a healthy rumen environment and insure a fine monitoring of rumen pH in dairy rations. Recent trials at the Cargill Animal Nutrition Innovation Centre in Velddriel, the Netherlands, showed that levels of lactic acid – the most acidic of the rumen acids – fell significantly as Equaliser dosage increased and there was a very significant and linear improvement in milk fat percentage and milk fat yield. Also included in the Rupromin portfolio is Rupromin Protek®. This has been shown to improve the overall feed efficiency of the diet.

Swine: Cargill launches Neopigg® RescueCare in Europe

Neopigg® RescueCare is a unique liquid feeding program for piglets and is developed by Cargill, integrating 7 years of developments from its liquid neonatal nutrition. Neopigg® RescueCare is part of the Neopigg program, which was recently launched globally. The program is designed to help pork producers increase the life expectancy of their pigs through an advanced feeding program that targets neonatal nutrition. Neopigg® RescueCare combines a high quality liquid feeding program with modern automated feeding equipment. The new Neopigg® RescueCare feeding program is designed to increase overall sow productivity, defined as the kilograms of delivered pigs per sow per year at 10 weeks of age. Neopigg® RescueCare consists of two new liquid products complementing each other:

  •  Neopigg® RescueMilk 2.0, a specially formulated milk replacer which meets the piglet's protein and energy requirements and stimulates the development of the digestive system.
  • Neopigg® Smooth 2.0, a unique liquid pre-starter improving growth rates through better feed intakes.

Both products are designed to be fed through Neopigg® RescueCups making the fresh liquid feed available 24/7.

Poultry

From poultry perspective, Cargill's definition of farm efficiency means maintaining the economically profitable production during the times of high raw material prices, increasing legislative pressure to improve welfare and health status of the animals, as well as satisfying the consumer preference for healthier and sustainable food (meat) products. The use of antibiotics in poultry production is a very important subject within Europe, and it is gaining more importance in other parts of the world. Uncontrolled use of antibiotics in production of poultry creates a health risk as it can lead to development of bacterial resistance to these medicines. Maintaining gut health while reducing the reliance on antibiotics is a key challenge facing the poultry sector.

Within poultry, Cargill will focus on solutions to improve farm efficiency by improving gut health with supportive products like essential oils and organic acids (Biacid®) as well as new natural molecules such as Lactylates (Aloapur®).  Cargill's experience in feed formulation and research data, minimizes the risk of onset of intestinal diseases leading impaired welfare and foot pad dermatitis as a result of wet litter. Cargill offers solutions and fits to the market needs where additives products from the PROMOTE™ brand contributes to more consistent, efficient and reliable poultry production.
