Biosecurity highlighted in AgroFarm's extensive technical program

AgroFarm 2015, the international exhibition for animal husbandry and breeding which takes place from 3-5 February 2015 in Moscow, will highlight the importance of biosecurity across all stages of animal production in its popular technical program.

Biosecurity in livestock is multifaceted and achieving it entails putting in place strict management protocols extending across each stage of production, regardless of animal species.

This includes sourcing disease-free replacement stock, ensuring high-health status within existing stock and establishing strict standards of animal management and welfare throughout each stage of management.

In order to promote the importance of achieving biosecurity, the Information Centre at AgroFarm will provide practical solutions and advice on reducing the incidence of animal disease across each industry, with particular emphasis on preventing potentially harmful exposure to disease and bacteria.

Advice on the following will be highlighted:

·         Hygiene and cleaning

·         Disinfection

·         Segregation

·         Monitoring and control

“At AgroFarm this year, we aim to offer a closer look at biosecurity solutions available to both Russian and international farmers. The crucial factor about this key topic is that manufacturers will have the opportunity to exhibit their solutions in a practical way via live demonstrations and seminars,” explains Angelina Laas, DLG coordinator of the Information Center at AgroFarm.

“For example, state-of-the-art foam and misting equipment will be demonstrated in enclosed areas to show each step of the cleaning process for cattle, pig or poultry housing. The latest disinfectant and cleaning agents from leading manufacturers will also be showcased, as well as technical innovations relevant to biosecurity.”

“We will also be looking at other variables that promote biosecurity, including the importance of careful management and the implementation of certain hygiene measures for reducing antibiotics in pork production.  The importance of good ventilation and air filtration in animal housing will also be underlined,” adds Laas.

Additional highlights will include the supporting conference: ‘Biosecurity in pig production'. Internationally acclaimed experts in epizooty and animal health will focus on pig health, occurrences and spread of pig disease and disease prevention in pig housing.

AgroFarm highlights solutions for the Russian livestock industry from more than 340 exhibitors attending the show from over 28 countries. Last year, in excess of 10,000 visitors travelled from 75 countries to attend the leading Russian event.

Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, AgroFarm takes place at the VDNH exhibition centre and is organised by the DLG International GmbH (Frankfurt am Main), a subsidiary of the DLG, and OAO VDNH (Moscow).

The DLG's expertise in agriculture helps ensure that AgroFarm delivers key, industry-sensitive information in the most visitor-friendly way.
