International Conferences at Simei 2015: from Sustainability to Sensory Analysis

For the 2015 edition of SIMEI - International Enological and Bottling Equipment Exhibition - Unione Italiana Vini has organized a comprehensive programme of initiatives, meetings, conferences, focused on highly qualified professional update. The complete schedule of events is available on the website www.simei.it and it is already possible to register with meetings of interest by the application form.

The two international conferences will take place on 3 and 4 November: they are different, but they have a deep theme continuity and for them UIV has involved some among the most important exponents of the scientific and research world and several private companies.

A prestigious group of famous personalities coming from the research and from the university world will attend the two meetings. In particular, the participants will include: Ettore Capri - Adjunct Professor of Agrarian Chemistry - Catholic University " Sacro Cuore" of Piacenza - and Director of OPERA Research Centre; Lucia Bailetti - Director of Italian Centre for Sensory Analysis; Osvaldo Failla – Associate Professor -  Department. of Agrarian and Agricultural Sciences, University of Milan; Ulrich Fischer – University Professor - Enology and Viticulture Department - Kompetenzzentrum Weinforschung DLR Rheinpfalz, Neustadt;  Riccardo Guidetti - Professor - Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, University of Milan; Allison Jordan -Vice President of Environmental Affairs for Wine Institute and Executive Director of California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance; Patrizia La Trecchia - Associate Professor, University of South Florida; Erminio Monteleone - President of Italian Sensory Science Society; Anita Oberholster - Enology and Viticulture Department  of UC-University of California, Davis; Jean Claude Ruf, OIV Scientific Coordinator; Michael Aaron Veseth - Wine Economist and Economics Professor - Puget Sound University.

As virtuous examples following the ethical path to sustainability, important case histories will also draw the attention of participants.

The speakers will be: Gustavo Hormann, Chief Wine Maker of  Montes Wines, one of the most important Chilean Winemaker;, Jennifer Jo Wiseman, Vice President of Consumer and Product Insights - E. & J. Gallo Winery - California; Carol Karahadian, Director of Product and Process Technology and Sensor - Starbucks; Ivy Koelliker - Sr Project Manager Sensory Spectrum; Karissa Kruse, President of Sonoma County Winegrape Commission; Maurizio Bogoni, Director of Tenimenti Ruffino; Marius Lambrechts, Innovation Director of Distell Group Limited; Patricio Parra, General Manager of Consorcio VINOS DE CHILE; Josh Prigge, Sustainability Manager of Fetzer Vineyards; Alberto Ugolini, Brand Ambassador of Santa Margherita.

The topics of sustainability and of sensory analysis are strictly connected: Unione Italiana Vini has been the promoter of these conferences starting from the assumption that the connection between these two elements is the key for the future of enology.

The two Conferences will last one day and a half together.

There will be a total of five sessions, each of them accessible also separately:

  • Sustainability @ SIMEI 2015 – a holistic approach
  • Quality of Growth: sustainable value chains – innovative, profitable and fair
  • Sensory Analysis as the missing piece of sustainable viticulture
  • How to develop a database of sensory tools
  • Neuropsychiatry of IULM Institute – The new frontiers of neuromarketing about wine products and the measurement of emotional reactions

The interactive format resulting already successful in the 2013 edition will be repeated: there will be themed round tables and every session will be concluded by a discussion, in which the speakers will answer the questions of attendees concerning the topics discussed, thus creating a particularly fruitful and involving exchange of ideas. The meetings will be managed by Natasha Walker– Owner of NWA - and by Alexandru Marchis – OPERA Research Centre, Policy Team Coordinator - high-level international moderators called to stimulate the development of contents in an interesting, usable and useful way.
