Agriculture and rural development Commissioner Phil Hogan said: “The approach to an economic partnership on a formal footing is already being put in place in EU-Africa discussions on agriculture and rural development. The task force, and its 11 African and European members working together towards concrete recommendations and new ideas for agriculture, the agri-food sector, finance, research and sustainable production, is a perfect example of this approach.
Set up at the initiative of the Commission last May 2018, the group of experts will provide recommendations on the potential role of the European agri-food sector in the sustainable economic development of Africa. The final report, which should be published in January 2019, will focus on job creation and support to youth working in the agri-food sector in Africa.
EU-Africa relations are a priority for the European Commission, who recently launched the new Africa-Europe Alliance to stimulate investments and job creation.
